StartUp Europe Awards, is a non-profit initiative created in the European Union in 2015, this initiative is an annual contest to identify and promote young entrepreneurs with high potential.
In this first edition for Mexico, the purpose of the contest is to consolidate the agro-entrepreneurship ecosystem and boost the sector’s start-up towards new markets in a more competitive way.
The initiative in Mexico is promoted by the Integral Development Corporation, in collaboration with the European Commission -DG CONNECT- and Finnova, to promote local entrepreneurship and open innovation in the Mexican agri-food sector.
Participating categories are as follows: water, climate, social innovation, gastronomy and AgriTech.
Among the challenges that can be addressed with help of StartUp solutions are: Improvement of productive chains, different uses of waste, water reuse, food quality improvements, climate change impact, renewable energies and implementation of a continuous and inclusive innovation culture.
Finnova foundation, will make it easier for Mexican and European enterprises to have access to European founds for technological innovation, particularly in the AgriTech sector; being considered as strategic for the country and of great commercial importance for the European Union.
From this initiative, it seeks to promote public-private collaboration, and implement strategic alliances with other markets in order to make this sector even more diversified.
The purpose of the contest is to identify, reward and encourage those entrepreneurs who have achieved a positive impact in the agri-food sector in each category. In this line, the level of innovation, economic impact, jobs creation, solution to environmental problems, value generation, and social development, among others will be evaluated.
